The Nairobi cohort

In their own words.

Recorded testimonies, September 2026. Nothing here was written by us.

Caregiving is about creating a safe relationship where the child feels understood and supported.

After the training I have greater self-awareness. I am more patient, more confident, calmer and more understanding. Caregiving is not simply about looking after a child, but about creating a safe relationship where the child feels understood and supported.

JJoyce O.Graduate, Nairobi
I learned to understand children better, listen to them, and respond with patience and care.

Before joining Lumira, I already had children under my care, but I did not fully understand my responsibilities, professional boundaries or how to communicate properly with children and parents. Through Lumira, I learned to understand children better, listen to them, communicate respectfully and respond to their needs with patience and care.

JJudith O.Graduate, Nairobi
I can hold boundaries with kindness and remain connected without losing myself.

I have become a calm, respectful and confident caregiver who can pause before reacting, communicate clearly, hold boundaries with kindness and remain connected without losing myself. I have learned to slow down, recognize my emotions and listen to what my body is telling me. My calmness affects how I respond to children and to other people.

GGloria O.Graduate, Nairobi
One important breakthrough was learning to pause before reacting.

Looking back across the modules, my learning did not happen all at once. Some modules brought clarity while others challenged me to think differently about caregiving. One important breakthrough for me was learning to pause before reacting. Being a professional caregiver is not only about completing tasks; it is about being calm, observant and emotionally present.

VVanessa P.Graduate, Nairobi
Sometimes children need us to stay close, observe, and trust their own abilities.

Since I started this journey, so many things have changed within me: how I communicate with children and how I communicate with parents. People are even telling me that nowadays I am very different in the way I communicate at home. I learned that children do not always need us to solve things for them.

CCatherine S.Graduate, Nairobi
I do not have to be perfect to be a good caregiver.

Looking back from Module 1 to Module 9, I am not exactly the same person I was when I started. I have grown emotionally and personally. I understand myself better and I understand the kind of person and caregiver I want to become. What matters is that I keep learning, growing and that I love my work with children.

EElizabeth O.Graduate, Nairobi

SSarah O.Graduate, Nairobi
I wait, I listen, and sometimes just being there for the child is enough.

As a holistic trained caregiver I wait, I listen, and I experienced that sometimes just being there for the child is enough. Being patient has taught me so much. I trust myself with children now more.

AAliciaGraduate, Nairobi
My calmness can help the child find calmness too.

Through the sessions over the last three months I became settled, calm and steady. I learned how important it is to regulate my own emotions before responding to a child.

VValery O.Graduate, Nairobi
I feel grounded with children wherever I go.

The way I perceive children now is different from before. I feel grounded with children wherever I go. I feel so much in love with them, and sometimes children even follow me because of the relationship I am creating with them.

JJoy N.Graduate, Nairobi
From Module 1 to Module 9, I see myself as a different person.

Since I started this Lumira journey, it has been so meaningful to me. Lumira has changed my perspective: the way I reason, the way I see my role and the way I interact with people and children. From Module 1 to Module 9, I see myself as a different person.

CCarolyne O.Graduate, Nairobi
Instead of focusing only on behaviour, I now pay attention to emotions, development, environment, and the child.

The professional training with Lumira as a holistic caregiver did not only change me as a caregiver, but also my experience of motherhood. I have become more patient and confident. I have learned to set the mood and not force things.

LLavender O.Graduate, Nairobi
Lumira has changed the way I see myself as a caregiver.

Comparing who I was before Lumira to who I am now, I feel more confident, responsible and professional. It has not only improved my caregiving skills. It has changed the way I approach children and my work.

MMaureenGraduate, Nairobi
Now I feel confident as a caregiver.

The training helped me develop greater confidence, self-awareness and professional maturity. I became more thoughtful about children's needs, their autonomy, communication and boundaries.

LLillian M.Graduate, Nairobi
Responsibility no longer feels like pressure. It has become orientation.

From Module 1 through Module 9, I have learned to take responsibility for my presence, my regulation, my communication, my clarity and the safety of the children.

PPauline O.Graduate, Nairobi
I do not rush. I simply pause, listen and observe.

When I started this journey, I thought I already knew a lot. But through Lumira, I learned so much more about handling children. Now when something happens, I know how to approach it.

MMaureen O.Graduate, Nairobi
I understand better when to guide, when to support, and when to give a child space.

After joining the Lumira holistic caregiver training I understand myself as a caregiver. I can see how much more regulated and calm I have become. Even when children are throwing tantrums, I remain calm and present. It really feels good to be part of Lumira.

JJacqueline W.Graduate, Nairobi
Caregiving is a relationship that can influence how safe, capable, and understood a child feels.

This journey has been so meaningful to me because I have learned to understand children better and respond to them with more patience, empathy and care. I now see caregiving as much more than a job.

SSarah M.Graduate, Nairobi
My way of handling children is with great love, and I feel very ready for the next step.

I have learned to be conscious with my emotions, and my way of communicating now comes with a deeper sense of understanding.

WWhitneyGraduate, Nairobi
Being calm as a caregiver can change the whole atmosphere around a child.

The training taught me that being calm as a caregiver can change the whole atmosphere around a child.

MMillicent P.Graduate, Nairobi
I have become more aware of what may be happening beneath a child's behaviour.

What changed most for me is how I respond to children. I have become more patient, more observant, and more aware of what may be happening beneath their behaviour.

MMakenaGraduate, Nairobi
Our presence, tone of voice, and way of responding shape a child's experience.

I used to think good caregiving was mainly about completing daily tasks. Now I understand how much our presence, tone of voice, and way of responding shape a child's experience.

VVelmaGraduate, Nairobi
Good caregiving begins with observing the individual child rather than assuming what they need.

I became more aware that every child is different. Good caregiving begins with observing the individual child rather than assuming what they need.

EEdnaGraduate, Nairobi
Even ordinary moments can become meaningful moments of connection and learning.

I understand now that even ordinary moments, mealtimes, getting dressed, going to sleep, or resolving a conflict, can become meaningful moments of connection and learning.

What a Lumira caregiver does

Observable in the room.

This is what families notice within the first weeks. It is a standard, not a promise about any one person.

01
Initiative

She notices what the child and the day need next, and begins, without waiting to be managed.

02
Real engagement

Activity and companionship for a toddler, not containment or distraction.

03
Rhythm

Routines and transitions with calm pacing, so the day is readable to the child.

04
Calm with parents

She says what happened clearly. She does not hide difficulties and she does not dramatize them.

05
Independence

Where the child is able, she lets them finish. Coat, cup, toy on the shelf.

06
Presence

Phone aside. Eyes on the child. She reads the room before something happens.

Act one · Modules 1 to 5
Understanding the child

Development, bonding and attachment, emotional security, daily care, language, play, wellbeing, movement, nature, digital awareness.

Act two · Modules 6 to 9
Becoming a professional

Cultural difference, communication, working with parents, boundaries, family systems, conflict, professional identity, emotional resilience.
